David (Dave) Alan Rein passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025 in Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Peter Rein, and a brother, Herbert. He is survived by a sister Jody Rein of Centennial Colorado.
Dave was born in Kokomo, Indiana and grew up there and in Skokie, Illinois where he attended Niles North High School graduating in 1979 Dave was active in numerous academic & athletic activities.
He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences in 1983, attaining Bronze Tablet recognition for excellence in academics.
Following graduation, Dave was a staff member of Project Vote, a national voter registration organization and later worked for the Champaign County Health Care Consumers as a community organizer and as a staff member for the Illinois Pro Bono Center before returning to graduate school where he earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois College of Education in 1997.
After moving to Denver, Dave worked as a grant writer and development director for several non-profit and academic institutions, including the National Civic League, Colorado School of Mines, Metropolitan State College, and the New America School, raising millions of dollars and assisting these organizations in successfully accomplishing their goals.
Dave was an avid reader, especially of science fiction and history of the levant and the development of religion in that region. He participated in creative writing groups in Denver and published several items with the local writers group. He was also a fan of the local sports teams, and was a long-time season ticket holder for the Colorado Rockies.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 p.m. at 5101 West 33rd Avenue in Denver. Join us for light refreshments and where we can share memories of Dave.
