Sandra Shefrin

January 8, 1936 — January 4, 2023

Sandy was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1936 to Frank and Louise Landie. The family moved to San Francisco then settled in Denver a few years later.

Her parents owned and ran small grocery stores in each of the cities they lived. Sandy attended East High School where she formed close friendships with a few young women with whom she remained dear to her throughout her life.

Sandy attended The University of Colorado for a short time and was introduced to Bill Shefrin by a mutual friend. They had a wonderful life together for 65 years. One of her creative endeavors included making and selling cleverly designed terrariums with her friend Marlene Geottleman in the 1970s.

Her creative spirit was reflected as well as Bill's, throughout their home by the eclectic collection of art and Sandy’s hand-made crafts. She dabbled in colorful needlework, macramé and three-dimensional paintings. She collected beautiful sculptural glass which she sprinkled throughout the home.

Sandy was also an amazing gourmet cook and baker. Her kids have fond memories of the animal-shaped cakes she baked for their birthdays. Bill delighted in joking at every opportunity with many references to tuna fish milkshakes...until Sandy made one for him..... She was coy, funny in her witty way and a bit snarky when necessary. She had a memorable laugh and when her laughter turned into tears, her family knew they succeeded.

Sandy worked as a civilian at the Air Force Finance Center in Lowry for most of her professional career. When Bill retired from the Gates Rubber Company after a 30+-year career, they took great pleasure in traveling around the world: Europe and Asia. One of their last trips was to Israel. Sandy basked in sun-shiny days, warm climates and loved Thailand especially, where she hoped to return some day. With her daughter Denni, she visited Panama and with her son Brad and daughter-in-law Joann, they visited Paris.

If you were to ask Bill where they've traveled, from his wallet and with great pride, he would pull out an extraordinarily long tiny-printed list of all of the towns, cities and countries they visited.

At her core was Sandy's love of her family – and especially her two grandchildren, Alex and Jack. She and Bill took every opportunity to be a presence in their lives especially when they were young.

The wife of Bill Shefrin, Sandy is survived by her children Denni (Luke) and Brad (Joann) and her four grandchildren, Alex, Jack, Kaitlyn  and Heather, and her two step grandchildren, Junai and Grant.
